  2. More importantly do you think your online customers would initially pay more attention to your product or service by seeing a photo or video?

Statistically the answer is an overwhelming YES to both questions. So if that IS the case ask yourself does my website showcase my products and/or services with great photos and/or videos?

So let’s assume for a moment you answered NO, the next obvious question is WHY?

Before you answer that let me tell you what the vast number of website owners have said to me when I asked them that question…. “There’s more than enough information about my product or service on my website”, sound familiar?

These website owners all have one affliction in common….. TMI (too much information). In other words just because YOU know all about your product or service doesn’t mean that your target market does. Just because you totally believe in the merits of what you’re selling online doesn’t mean that a prospective customer does.

If you look at some of the most successful online stores (eg: Oricom, Appliances Online, Harvey Norman) to name just a few, you will see that they all go to extremes to show each individual product in its absolute best light using great photos, videos and descriptions to satisfy even the most pedantic customer.

So if it works for the market leaders why wouldn’t work for you? Cost I hear you say? Well yes there is a cost involved but when compared to the potential return on investment (ROI) that cost is relative to the profit you would generate from extra sales these visual assets would generate.

Many merchants believe that sales, especially online sales are purely driven by price. Again, statistics prove this isn’t true. Unless you are the only merchant selling a particular item you can guarantee there will be other merchants selling the exact same item/service as you either at the same, higher or lower price. In the end the customer will buy a product or service from a website which presents its wares in their best light.

So if your website is generating more sales than you can handle then more power to you but if it isn’t it might just be time to up the ante so to speak and bring some more imaging to your online presence.
